The Oratorical Contest—also known as the Washington Constitutional Speech Contest—is right around the corner. Cathay Post #186 has proudly sponsored many outstanding high school students over the years, with some advancing to win at the state and even national levels.

In a historic step toward inclusivity and relevance, the American Legion Department of Washington has approved a 2025 pilot to transition its flagship civic education program into Evergreen Boys & Girls State. Beginning with the 2026 session, this program will be conducted as a fully co-educational experience under the authority of The American Legion Department of Washington.
