Chinese American WWII Veterans Recognition Project

The mission of the Chinese American WWII Veterans Recognition Project is to recognize, honor and celebrate the military service of Chinese Americans who fought in the Second World War through advocacy, education and preservation. Our work is to ensure that the achievements and contributions of the ‘greatest generation’ will never be forgotten.

The Chinese American WWII Veterans Recognition Project is a program of the Chinese American Citizens Alliance (C.A.C.A.), a 501(c)8, and the National Chinese American Citizens Alliance Community Involvement Fund, a 501(c)3. Together spearheaded a national campaign to identify, honor and recognize the efforts and accomplishments of all Chinese Americans who served in the United States Armed Services in World War II. Cathay Post #186 was honored to be apart of the event and aid in the Seattle Regional Congressional Gold Medal Committee on November 13th 2021 at the Meydenbauer Center in Bellevue.

Enacted December 20, 2018

On May 4, 2017 bi-partisan legislation was introduced in the U.S. Senate (S.1050) and U.S. House of Representatives (H.R.2358) for the passage of the Chinese-American World War II Veteran Congressional Gold Medal Act.

On September 12, 2018, S.1050 is passed in the Senate. The U.S. House of Representatives passes the bill on December 12, 2018.  The bill was signed into law (Pub. L. 115-337) by President Trump on December 20, 2018.

Now enacted, the U.S. Mint and the Chinese American WWII Veterans Recognition Project works together to design the final medal. Generally the medal design process takes about 6-8 months.
