March 21, 2026 — Today we celebrated National Rosie the Riveter Day at the The Museum of Flight (TMOF). It was a beautiful day—made even better by a welcome break from the rain.
Rosie the Riveter Day honors the dedication and sacrifice of American women who stepped into the workforce during World War II. Millions of women left their pre-war roles to work in factories, electronics, and welding facilities—supporting the war effort and redefining what was possible. Nearly five million civilian women took on jobs once considered “men’s work,” while about 350,000 served in uniform.
The opportunities women have today—in military service, industry, and leadership—stand on the foundation built by these trailblazers. Their enduring “We Can Do It!” spirit continues to inspire.
Although we were not joined by any Rosies at today’s event, we were honored to hear remarks from WWII Army veteran Emil Martin, as well as from the Commander of Cathay Post 186. TMOF President and CEO Matt Hayes accepted a Rosie the Riveter Congressional Gold Medal replica for the museum’s collection, presented by the AFA - Greater Seattle Chapter #244.
A heartfelt thank you to the TMOF staff and volunteers, Friends of Willie & Joe volunteers, AFA Chapter #244, and American Legion Cathay Post #186 for making this event possible.
Special appreciation to the TMOF public events team (Cale Wilcox) for their outstanding coordination.
