Greetings Scholarship Applicants:
It is with great pleasure Cathay Post #186 of the American Legion announces its 2025 Higher Education Scholarship Program. Please read the instructions and eligibility/qualifications below.

Instructions
• Read both the Guidelines and the Application documents.
• Ensure you meet the eligibility qualifications.
• Complete the Application document by typing directly onto it or printing it and then filling it out.
• Attach your essay and Recommendation Form Statement to your application.
• Submit your completed application document either by email or by mail by the deadline.
General Information
• Two scholarships of $2,000.00 each are awarded annually.
Eligibility/Qualifications
• High school senior or undergraduate pursuing a degree or certificate in a community college, professional/technical (trades) school, or 4-year university.
• Cathay Post #186 members (past or current) or their relatives or sponsored by a current or past Cathay Post #186 member.
• A scholarship recipient must wait at least one year before applying for another scholarship.

• Civic Engagement (activities within your community)
• Achievements

• One essay
• The essay has a maximum 500-word limit.
• Double-spaced (typed with a font of 12 is preferred)
• Recommendation Form Statement ( (from a teacher, coach, advisor, mentor, employer, sponsor, peer, or neighbor)

Deadline
All applications documents which include the application form, the essay, and the Recommendation Form Statement must be received by email or postmarked on or before
Sunday, March 16, 2025, by 11:59 p.m. PST.
Announcement of Results
• Notifications to all applicants will occur shortly after the deadline.
• An invitation to attend the Cathay Post #186 Scholarship Awards ceremony will be sent. The
winner is expected to attend the meeting to receive the award.
• At a future Cathay Post #186 meeting, the winner will be asked to attend and share with the
members the impact the scholarship has had on the recipient.
